At Big Horn Basin Regional Cancer Center, our team is committed to working
with you to determine which therapy or combination of therapies will work
best to meet your specific needs. Our board-certified hematologist and
oncologist specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of
blood diseases and cancers.
Our experienced staff individualizes your treatment plan to ensure that
you are receiving the highest quality care during your treatments, utilizing
the most current cancer treatment methods.
Three of the most common treatment methods include:
Chemotherapy
Many people are familiar with the term chemotherapy, which most often refers
to the administration of a combination of drugs that destroy cancer cells.
For some patients, chemotherapy may cure cancer; for others, it may simply
keep cancer from spreading further. It can be used in combination with
other treatments, such as radiation.
Hormone Therapy
Hormones are powerful, naturally occurring chemicals that are important
for the function of our physiological processes – such as metabolism.
In some people, however, they actually spur cancer growth. If hormones
are found to be the cause of tumor growth, your oncologist may administer
a drug to slow the hormone and thereby prohibit further growth.
Targeted Cell Therapy & Immunotherapy
Using drugs or other substances, targeted cancer therapy does what its
name suggests: focus specifically on the molecules that cause or increase
cancer growth in cells. By targeting these molecules, the division of
cells can no longer continue. In addition, some targeted therapies encourage
the patient’s own immune system to recognize and destroy cancer
cells. Most of these therapies have less side-effects than the tradition
chemotherapy.
